Four ways to practise estimation.

Fill a clear jar with objects you can count afterward, such as blocks. Collect the estimates, then empty the jar and count together.

Discuss: What small group or familiar quantity did you use as a reference?

Show a dot pattern for three seconds and collect guesses. Show the same number of dots arranged in groups, then collect a second estimate.

Discuss: Which arrangement was easier to judge, and why?

Choose an object and estimate its length, mass or capacity. Agree on a unit, record the guesses, then measure it with the appropriate tool.

Discuss: Was your estimate high or low? How far was it from the measurement?

Project the game and have students write down an estimate while the timer runs. Enter one guess before time is up. Once the count appears, everyone can compare it with their own answer.
